Govt Is Manipulating State Media – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it would in due course address what it described as the government's manipulation of State-Owned Media that are characterised by biased reporting and unequal access to opposition parties.

The NDC said while a press conference on October 24, at which Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Flag Bearer of NDC for 2004; raised pertinent issues received scant coverage in the State-Owned Media, the reaction by the Minister of Information, Nana Akomea got front-page treatment as well as extended coverage by the Ghana Television (GTV).

These were contained in a press release signed by Mr Seth Ofori-Ohene for Mr John D. Mahama, NDC Director of Communications.

The release said the Office of the NDC Flag Bearer had taken note that it took the government one whole month to react to issues raised by Prof. Mills at his pres conference and at a time when he was out of the country.

It said: "The Party is studying the contents of the statement made by the Minister in reaction to the allegations and public perception of corruption, selective justice and political impunity" on the part the Government and would issue "a fitting response shortly'.

The release said a "copy of the Minister's statement has been available to Professor Mills, who will on his return also react appropriately.
