Government urged to strengthen support for start-ups

Emmanuel Dapaah, a Management Consultant, has asked the Government to strengthen its commitment to providing financial and technical assistance to young people eager to start their own businesses.

That, he said, was the only way to demonstrate the resolve to creating the right atmosphere for young entrepreneurs to start their own businesses to reduce the country’s unemployment rate.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a training programme for young entrepreneurs at Agona, Mr Dapaah said the lack of start-up capital and professional guidance were some of the major challenges facing young entrepreneurs.

The training was organised by National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) with support from the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), to equip young entrepreneurs and businesses in the district with management and financial skills to improve their performance.

Mr Dapaah, the Chief Executive of DAPNAB Consult, a management consulting firm in Kumasi, said with small capital and technical assistance, most young people could stand and develop their own businesses.

He charged young entrepreneurs to keep proper records and cultivate the savings culture to enable them to attract credit facilities from financial institutions.

He appealed to banks and other financial institutions to organise regular training programmes for young people who did business with them to help grow and expand their trades and create more jobs for the people.
