A budget analyst with the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, Godson Ekorke, has tasked Ghanaians to intensify monitoring how taxes are used by local government authorities.

Speaking to Class News, Mr Ekorke said constant monitoring of how metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies use funds is crucial if citizens are to reap developmental benefits in the country.

“Indirectly it is just an interface between the Assembly on one hand and the beneficiaries (that is) the people who are at the end of receiving our services to assist us,” he stated.

“All the tax payers, market women, all forms of trade association, they are paying the taxes which comes to the assemblies with some going to government. They should be on the ground and monitor what we are doing.

“When we meet them and we let them know that we are going to do this and that project for them, they must ensure that we do it and when we do not do it they have cause to come and question us as to why we have not done it. In that regard, I will be in a position to explain that we have not been able to do it on the account of this and that.”
