Former IBF Welterweight champion Joshua Clottey has advised young and upcoming boxers to desist from consuming alcohol and party if they want to reach the lofty heights set by their predecessors.

Ghana’s boxing has witnessed little success with Commey and Dogboe losing their titles in the past two years.

Currently the country which is credited with producing Africa’s greatest boxer is without a world title.

Speaking on Accra-based Atinka FM, Clottey attributed the situation to indiscipline among the boxers.

He questioned their commitment to the club and berated them for being fixated with ‘drinking and partying’.

“Ghanaian boxers are not serious; they are always drinking and partying. They are not serious at all, even after losing a bout instead of them to go to the gym, train and correct their mistakes you will see them at drinking spot”.

Clottey is one of nine Ghanaian boxers who have won a world title. He held the welterweight title between 2008 and 2009.

Since losing to Many Pacquaio in 2010, Clottey has not yet featured in a world title bout.

Attempts to re-launch his once glittering career has yielded no positive result.
