Ghana to participate in basketball eliminator

Accra, May 22, GNA - The national under 20 men's basketball team is expected to leave Accra by road on Monday to Burkina Faso to participate in the second ANC FIBA-Africa Zone three basketball elimination series.

A statement signed and copied to the GNA Sports by Ramatu Sulemana, Acting Secretary General of the Ghana Basketball Association said the five-day competition would start on Wednesday May 26 and would feature countries like Liberia, Nigeria, Niger, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin and the host nation, Burkina Faso.

The statement continued that the first two from the Burkina Faso eliminator would qualify for the final elimination series scheduled for Dakar, Senegal. It said the Dakar final eliminator, which comes off between July 23rd and August 1 2004 would be the final qualifier for the 2005 world Championship whose venue and date is yet to be fixed.

The Ghanaian team is made is made up of 12 player and six officials. Players to made the trip are: Adjei Kwame, Kofi Kwarteng, Agyeman Prempeh, Ahmed Asshaq, Ernest Borsah, Musa Ibrahim, Oscar Gbedemah, Amar Pascal Attioto, Kwaku Owusu-Agyeman, Kwachie Nii Ankrah, Kumi kofi Attafuah and Mohammed Salis.

The official accompanying the team are Iddrisu Gamal, an accompanying FIBA-Africa-referee, Victor Manford, coach, Emmanuel Wobil, coach and Nashiru Yakubu, physical trainer.
