The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, has stated the country’s economy is in a reverse mode.

According to him, it is erroneous to give a lot of attention to the service sector instead of agriculture and technology.

Speaking at the 2nd Biennial Scientific Conference in Accra, Prof. Owusu predicted that if the country does not make right its priorities, the outcome on the economy may be dire.

“We've gotten to a point that as a nation we must make a decision either we decide to invest in science education or we forget about it,” the vice chancellor said.

“There is no doubt that the nation’s development depends on science education. We have a reverse economic growth as a nation, so the top most growth is service sector followed by industry and then we have agriculture as the last.”

Prof. Owusu also added the Ghana's economy may grind to a halt if drastic measures are not taken to revive the agricultural sector within 10 years.
