Ghana To Host FAPRA

The Federation of All Africa Public Relations Association (FAPRA) will orgainise a conference in Accra, the capital city of Ghana next month.

The conference, which will be hosted by the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, will attract 120 public relations associations in Africa. It will be on the theme,“Investment, Economic Developement and Public Relations”.

It is the third to be organised in Ghana. The first two were held in 1981 and 1994.

The President of IRP, Ghana, Mr. Kwaku Osei Bimpong, said at a press conference in Accra yesterday that the forum will, among other things, discuss how the practice of public relations can positively impact on the attraction and sustenance of investment inflows to enhance development in Africa.

According to him, the continent is faced with numerous challenges such as the low level of investment, lack of employment, high level of illiteracy and poverty.

Other areas that the conference will address include the low level of economic growth and issues concerning regional co-operation and integration.

“The conference will also offer the opportunity for the continent’s leading men and women in business and industry, academia and politics to share orientation and experiences with professional public relations practitioners on the public relations implication on economic investment in Africa ” he added.

The Managing Director of the New Times Corporation and chairman of the planning committee, Nanabanyin Pratt, said the conference will also showcase the number of Ghanaian intellectuals currently performing international assignments.

Key participants at the conference will include Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, Executive Secretary of ECOWAS, Dr. E.K.Y. Amoako, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, and Dr. Paa Kwasi Nduom, Minister of Economic Planning and Regional Co-operation.
