GAUA Withdraws Services Absolutely

Graduating students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) may have to wait till the impasse between the Ghana Association of University Administrators, GAUA, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission is resolved.
The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) issued a press statement Tuesday morning announcing the withdrawal of its services nationwide.
A copy of the statement received by focus news said, “the stalemate in determining the market premium for senior staff members of GAUA can no longer be accommodated”.
"Three separate meetings with the Minister of Finance, Minister of Education and the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. John Mahama", to determine their premium have all proved futile.
The statement signed by Mr. Gordon Mensah, National President of GAUA, accused the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission of showing lack of respect, disregarding them and taking them through extreme stress, adding that the Association "cannot be held at bay any longer".
"Under the circumstances, GAUA hereby formally informs you and duly serves notice that it is withdrawing all its services today Monday, 11th June, 2012 until further notice", the statement adds.
Mr. Solomon Panford, KNUST President of GAUA said besides the congregation, other activities that will be affected by the strike include admissions, processing of checks and payment of bills as well as construction works going on in the university.
The University Relations Officer, Mr. Ankamah Lomotey says the implications of GAUA’s decision are far reaching, adding that they had hoped the situation would not degenerate to this extent. He hoped the situation gets resolved soon since the effects of GAUA’s action will not be easy to mitigate.
