GAF's Gaffe: Board Of Inquiry Setup

According to the local radio station, PeaceFM, a board of inquiry has been set up to look into allegations of a scandal involving the sale of some Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) aircrafts.

The alleged scandal involves the sale of four scrapped Airforce Skyvan Aircraft (with numbers, SH1930, SH1929, SH1932 and a Dolphin L-29) which were sold to Pink Aviation Services for $US42,000 last year.

According to the ?Chronicle? newspaper, GAF put the sale of the scrap aircraft on international public tender and picked Pink Aviation as the winner. The company was asked by the GAF to pay the purchase price into GAF?s dollar account, by a letter dated December 22, 2003 and signed by Colonel G.K. Yeguo, which they did.

GAF thereafter, transferred ownership of the Aircraft to Pink Aviation. Subsequently, the company?s engineers spent time to repair the aircraft to a near-perfect condition, but GAF prevented them from getting close to the aircraft.

By a letter dated February 15th 2004, GAF cancelled the contract citing internal lapses within the GAF, national interest and other reasons as the basis for halting the transactions. Pink Aviation are so peeved at this that they intend taking the issue before the European Commission for what they termed as ?tragedy of doing business in Ghana.?
