A public forum has been scheduled to be held on Wednesday, September 9 at La Paz, Accra to drum home the need for a new voters’ register championed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The forum is expected to be addressed by a former National Chairman of the NPP, Dr Peter Mac Manu, who is also Chairman of the Democratic Union of Africa.

Other speakers have also been drawn from other political parties including People’s National Convention (PNC), National Democratic Party (NDP) and Progressive People’s Party (PPP0.

A release issued by Let My Vote Count Alliance, a pressure group, in conjunction with a number of similar groups said the forum is a precursor to a walk to the head office of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) scheduled to be staged on Wednesday, September 16.

Meanwhile, a permission sought by the various pressure groups viz ‘One Ghanaian One Vote’ over the walk has been rejected by the Ghana Police Service.

According to the police, the office of the EC is a security zone and will not warrant any such action.

“We wish to serve public notice to the Police and government, which we know is behind this arbitrary move to frustrate our constitutional right to picket the EC, that we shall march to the EC and picket the EC as intended on 16th September, 2015,” another statement from Let My Vote Count Alliance said on Tuesday.

“As far as we are concerned, the EC is not a security zone, like a place to manufacture weapons of mass destruction or for keeping sensitive national security materials.”

It reminded the public to take note of the date for the walk.
