Focus on Hospitality Industry- Pover

Accra, March 31, GNA- Mrs Claire Pover, Head of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mission to Ghana has urged Ghanaian entrepreneurs to focus on improving standards in the hospitality industry.

She noted that the industry had a lot of potential and capacity to transform the economy tremendously.

Mrs Pover was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra at the end of a weeklong visit to Africa.

The delegation sought to expand its market as well as find new partners in the Ghanaian and Nigerian markets. She said Ghana had many hotels across the beaches and other parts of the country, which had the potential to draw holidaymakers into the country on short-term basis, but could not offer them the hospitality due to lack of facilities.

Mrs Pover said the delegation would send back information about Ghana, especially the agro processing industry and hospitality areas, saying even with the few hospitality facilities, tourists and the huge number of businessmen from Europe and North America could be encouraged to come to Ghana explore and set up businesses. She said such business enterprise developments between developed and developing countries must be encouraged in order to bridge the gap between their peoples.

Mrs Pover described the visit of the Mission as most fruitful, saying, "we have been able to meet a lot of people who have expressed deep interest in working with us as representatives and in other capacities.

"Besides, two companies, Utopia U.K. and Onion Construction have landed deals that would see them soon participating fully in the Ghanaian market," she said. Utopia U.K. has landed a deal to import Papaya from Ghana while Onion Construction is interested in some on-going construction works in Ghana.
