Expect some 'dumsor' but not 'dum kraa' – Amewu

Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu

Energy Minister John Peter Amewu has said the government is addressing the intermittent power outages in some areas.

He, however, said there would not be the situation where there would be prolonged darkness.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, 26 November 2018 in the wake of power outages in various part of the country, Mr Amewu said the “dum kraa” (total darkness) experience during the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama will not recur but some “dumsor” (irregular power cuts) may be experienced is some few areas.

Mr Amewu said 800MW of power is lost during peak periods due to challenges related to gas supply but the government is making efforts to ensure that the Karpower receives the required energy supply to operate at optimal levels for electricity production.

At the end of the week, Mr Amewu said there would be an increased volume of 80 mega cubic feet of gas from Nigeria compared to the 30 mega cubic feet coming in due to some supply challenges.

Mr Amewu also refuted claims by the Minority that the current power outages were as a result of accumulated debt.
