Engage experts, shun all-knowing politicians – Otumfuo to Media

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has admonished the Media to engage the services of experts on specialised areas of discussion and shun all-knowing politicians.

“Let’s invite experts to come on radio and espouse their knowledge on various issues to educate students and Ghanaians. If we get experts on agriculture to talk about the sector it can encourage the youth to start farming that is what we must see in the media.

“But sometimes you see politicians on TV and on radio talking like they know everything on petroleum, health, agriculture, politics and everything, how can one person be an expert in everything,” the Asantehene said when he addressed a delegation from the Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network who paid a courtesy call on him at his Manhyia Palace on Wednesday.

The visit was to solicit the blessing of the Asante King ahead of the launch of the EIB Elections Hub which will be launched in Kumasi next Friday.

The Asantehene added that media owners must not allow unruly politicians use their platforms to insult each other and trade vitriolic attacks since that conduct is inimical to the development of the country.

“Don’t allow politicians take over the airwaves and insult and talk like they own Ghana… since Kwame Nkrumah’s period till now no president has been able to construct a road from Paga to Cape-Coast, all the presidents developed Ghana gradually so we shouldn’t allow them to talk anyhow.

“I even think politicians should be allowed on radio three months to election after that let's use the media to contribute to nation building and the improvement of livelihood.”
