EC’s new logo breaches no law – NDC

The Electoral Commission change of logo is not in breach of any law in Ghana, Communications Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah has said.

“Which law does the logo break in this country? Has the EC change the name of the commission? because that is what is provided for by the constitution of Ghana” Dr. Omane Boamah stated.

He feels the strong criticism coming at the EC for changing its logo is one of such deliberate attempts of the opposition NPP to frustrate the Chairperson of the commission on her job.

“They[NPP] have managed to get themselves into a tight corner. Let them not in trying to wash the kind of mess that has engulfed them, draw the EC into that kind of mess too. And that is why you’ll see and hear them jump onto thin issues such as logo. If they think that by now chasing logo and continuing with their harassing attack on one person that is what is going to guarantee them electoral success the ball is in their court. But for the NDC we’ll continue to remain focus” he said.

The EC before it puts any defense on why it settled on changing the old logo with 7 months to the elections, most Ghanaians have taken on the EC for such decision describing the move as useless and inappropriate.

But Dr. Omane Boamah on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji programme Saturday said the fuss about the EC’s new logo is needless since that will not be injurious to the electoral process.

“I don’t have an opinion on what the EC will decide as its logo or otherwise, unless it is injurious to the EC.

“..How does the logo of the EC change how I will vote or Nana Akufo-Addo will vote, or how any of the stakeholders in this election including the new voters how they’re going to vote? How does that affect transmission of election results? How does that affect the kind of illegal validation that they’re pushing for? he questioned.
