Delta Force 8: Attorney General must resign or be fired - Yamin

Attorney General, Gloria Akufo Attorney General, Gloria Akufo

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice Gloria Akufo has been advised to tender in her resignation letter to President Nanan Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for her decision to drop charges against the eight members of Delta Force, a vigilante group associated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“I will be very much surprise to see the Attorney General stay in office and work today. She should resign as Attorney General or be fired by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a minister”, former Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Joseph Yamin called.

The Attorney General took a decision to drop criminal charges against eight members of the Delta Force said to have aided the escape of thirteen of their colleagues from prisons custody.

The minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a press conference condemning the decision by the state calling it “capricious and abuse of due process”.

Mr. Joseph Yamin, a former Ashanti Regional Secretary of the opposition NDC has called for the head of Hon. Gloria Akuffo as a legal advisor of the President and government.

“The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that we are told his highest achievement is fighting for the rights of individuals comes to sit in front His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu and promise this matter would not rest until the perpetrators are dealt with”.

According to Joseph Yamin, the President knew well that the eight have erred and therefore see the conduct of the Attorney General as surprising after dropping the charges against all 8.

“Even before the President came out to say things those of us who are not even lawyers knew the boys have erred and cannot escape punishment” Hon Yamin claimed on Kumasi-based Ultimate FM.
