DCE beaten by angry mob

An angry mob yesterday set upon Alhaji Ibrahim Adani Kahabara, the President's nominee for Chief Executive of the Sagnarigu District in the Northern Region, and beat him to pulp without any provocation.

He was attacked with all manner of offensive weapons by the mob. But for the timely intervention of some elders, Alhaji Kahabara would have given up his ghost.

According to an eyewitness, his assailants stopped his vehicle, dragged him out and brutally assaulted him. The group said that their action was to register their displeasure at his nomination.

They claimed that their action was to forewarn him to decline his nomination to avoid further calamities.

Alhaji Kahabara was said to have fled to safety in his vehicle, amidst throwing of stones by the thugs, and all attempts to reach him on his cell phone as at press time proved futile.

The Times gathered that the group earlier demonstrated against his nomination and vowed not to accept his candidature.

The group also submitted a petition to the Northern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and copied the Regional Police Command.

According to sources, the petition cautioned the DCE nominee not to set foot in the town to accept the nomination, let alone appear before assembly members for his approval.

The petition stated that any time they sighted him, they would not hesitate to “confront” him.

The youth maintained in the petition that for peace and security to prevail in the area, the party should prevail upon the presidency to revoke his nomination.

According to them, the nominee not a native of the district, therefor, he should be advised to stay away from the district.

When contacted, the Tamale Metropolitan Police Commander, Ceasar Abanga, confirmed that the police had a copy of the petition but explained they had not received a complaint from Alhaji Kahabara.

Sangarigu District was recently carved out of the Tamale metropolis and is one of the five newly created in the region.
