Confusion rocks NPP

Confusion is raging within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as to who should handle the party’s so-called ‘True State of the Nation’ address, scheduled to come off today.

The confusion stems from the fact that some party bigwigs are calling on Nana Akufo-Addo to undertake that assignment, while their members of Parliament are also keen on taking up the address.

The national executive of the party are also eager to address today.

The position of the party bigwigs is that Nana Akufo-Addo must be heard in order to soothe the supporters of the party, who are otherwise jittery.

They also think that Nana Akufo-Addo has not spoken on any bigger platform within the year because of the petition he and two others are pursuing at the Supreme Court.

However, certain MPs are also claiming that once President Mahama addressed the nation at the Parliament House, the caucus should be made to address the press at the Parliament House.

Again, the MPs are claiming that they, through their boycott, helped the party in doing the big mischief and therefore must be made to handle the address.

The Enquirer’s flawless sources within the NPP have it that some national executive members are also saying that the address is the position of the party and not that of an individual or group of persons.

According to the sources, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has popped up as the person likely to handle the address.

However, most of the party big shots are not happy with Dr Bawumia, handling the address.

The sources told The Enquirer that those who are kicking against Dr Bawumia are of the view that there are subtle attempts within the party to make the young economist popular.

Party insiders told the paper yesterday that some party members are simply against the address, claiming that it exposes the party’s mischievousness.

The insiders told the paper that morally it was unjustified to have such address because the party has decided not to have anything to do with the president.

The NPP, after claiming that the 2012 Presidential election was fraught with irregularities, has decided not to have anything to do with President John Mahama.

The party boycotted his investiture and even went ahead to flog former President John Agyekum Kufuor who decided to attend the event as a statesman.

Again, MPs of the party last Thursday boycotted Parliament when President Mahama delivered the State of the Nation address.

It was after the president’s address that the party decided to come out with its own version of the address today.
