Conduct early run-off for Gomoa East

Delegates from the Gomoa Central constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have made a passionate appeal to the Regional and National Executives to fix an early date for the conduct of run-off elections to select Parliamentary candidate.

Mr Adams Yaqub, Polling Station Chairman made the appeal on behalf of the Delegates at Gomoa Akrama.

According to them, the early fixing of date would go a long way to help the party to prepare well for the 2016 general elections.

According to them, the primaries of June 13 failed to declare a winner as the two highest candidates tied.

They said that Mr Kojo Asomani and Rev Dr Marcus Yaw Danso tied with each polling 153 votes during the Parliamentary primaries held at Gomoa Akramang.

Three other contestants, Mr Samuel Arkins obtained 49 votes, Mr Mec Jewels Annan, former DCE in Kufour Administration also had 36 votes, and Richard Panford polled 30 votes.

A total of 412 delegates cast their votes with one spoiled ballot.

He appealed to the Central Regional Chairman of NPP, Mr Robert Kutin to use his good offices to intervene to fix date for the run-off of the primaries.

He said the elections were supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC), adding that polling agents of both Rev Danso and Mr Asomani signed the election results sheet.

According to the Polling Station Chairman in order to avoid doubt, the early fixing of date for the elections would assist the Gomoa East Constituency party to work hard to win the Parliamentary seat.

He said any delay in conducting the primaries could create problems for the party, adding that tension and acrimony would be avoided if the run-off was conducted early.

Mr Adams Yaqub appealed to the National Executives to consult their Regional counterparts, to expedite action to enable the delegates to choose a right and marketable Parliamentary candidate for Gomoa East NPP.
