Clergy 'begs' Doctors to call off strike

The Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana (CCG) is pleading with the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to reconsider their intended strike action slated for Monday, 11th February 2013.

The Ghana Medical Association gave a two-week ultimatum for government to ensure that all issues regarding disparities in their salaries are addressed.

But the fair wages and salaries commission is yet to meet the doctors to settle their grievances.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the concerned clergy, bishop prince Benny wood stated that “our contacts with the fair wages and salaries commission and the Ghana medical association showed that we could have avoided this situation”.

The statement also added that “we are also aware that there is an arbitration going on between the fair wages and salaries commission and Ghana medical association and urge all players to respect the process”.

“Much as we will not want our doctors to strike we are equally not happy with the way the situation has been handled for the past one year”.

The concern clergy association of Ghana will like to plead with the Ghana Medical Association to reconsider their intended strike action slated for the 11th of February 2013.

We sympathize with your condition and the challenges associated with your placement on the single spine salary structure.

Our contacts with the fair wages and salaries commission and the Ghana Medical Association showed that we could have avoided this situation.

We are also aware that there is an arbitration going on between the fair wages and salaries commission and Ghana medical association and urge all players to respect the process.

Much as we will not want our doctors to strike we are equally not happy with the way the situation has been handled for the past one year.

If we don’t expect our doctors to strike because they are engaged in essential services' we must also give them the needed respect and attention they deserve.

We trust the leadership of the Ghana medical association will respond to our plea in good faith even though our call might have come a bit late.

We call on all stake holders; the fair wages and salaries commission, National Labour Commission, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Ghana Medical Association and government to collaborate in the best interest of the people of Ghana to avoid future occurrence.

All of us as Ghanaians must put much premium and value on human lives and do things properly and professionally. God bless Ghana and make it greater and stronger.
