Chiefs call for removal of DCE

The chiefs of Ajumako Traditional Area in Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District have called on the government to immediately remove the District Chief Executive, Mr. Light Koomson, from office for alleged insolence and disregard for chiefs.

This was contained in a statement by the traditional council and signed by Okokodurfo Ogyeabo Nana Kwamina Hamma Ababio II, the President, and read by Nana Nyarko Okra Wiresi Beamhene of the Council at a meeting held on August 27 at Ajumako.

They stated that they had kept quiet for so long and their silence had paved way for their District to be used by some selfish individuals for their personal gain to the detriment of the people three decades now and if their grievances were not addressed they would advise themselves.

The chiefs said it was not their style to issue press statements but efforts they had made to enable their DCE to be abreast with their problems had fallen on deaf ears.

The chiefs said the Mr Koomson had done nothing to show that Ajumako was the district capital since he assumed office and mentioned deplorable roads and the stoppage of the grant the Assembly gave to the traditional council to facilitate its work.

They said the only project the District could boast of was a small sign board mounted adjacent to the assembly block with the inscription Ajumako, adding that this was sad and disrespectful to the people of the District, especially Ajumako.

They also said the DCE was incompetent and politically discriminatory and alleged that he stood before the traditional council and openly admitted giving monies to the 68 assembly members in the area to vote for him.

The chiefs said what annoyed them most was when he deliberately removed their representative from the assembly without any reason and put someone who is not a chief to represent them.

“We the Nananom of Ajumako Traditional Council can no longer work with the administration of our current DCE, Mr. Light Koomson for failing to discharge his duties to better the lots of the entire people of the area,” the statement said.

They appealed to the government to make immediate changes in the administration of the assembly because the more they stayed there the more they got corrupted.

Mr. Koomson said in reaction that the accusations leveled against him were untrue and calculated to discredit him and tarnish his reputation.

He said his administration had executed developmental projects and programmes to improve the living standards of the people and the statement should be treated as fabricated lies.
