Catholic Bishop denounces invocation of curses

The Catholic Bishop of Obuasi diocese, Most Rev. John Yaw Afoakwah has called on Christians to shun the invocation of curses at the least provocation and disagreement.

Bishop Afoakwah said it is shameful for Christians, especially communicants, to lie about issues and even go to the extent of invoking curses to settle the issues.

He called on those who indulge in the habit of cursing their fellow men to stop because it does not auger well for true Christians. Bishop Afoakwah raised this concern when he organised mass for over 3,000 Catholics and non-Catholics at the St.

Francis Xavier Parish at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of Ashanti Region, as part of a two-day pastoral visit to the parish.

He was assisted by the parish priest, Rev. Father John Kenneth Coffie, during the visit, which coincided with the celebration of the Corpus Christi, one of the greatest feasts of the Catholic Church, where the body of Christ was displayed in public.

Bishop Afoakwah asked the church leaders to continue their evangelization programme to keep the church members abreast with the good teachings of the church.

He also asked church members to offer gifts to the needy, poor and the sick so as to win more souls.

The Bishop commended the leadership of the Local churches in the area for the numerous projects being undertaken in the parish.

He also urged them to keep it up and thanked Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah II, Omanhene of Manso Nkwanta Traditional area for his continuous support to the parish and the release of 55 acres of land to the Manso Nkwanta Catholic Church for development projects.

The District Chief Executive for Amansie West, Mr. Alex Kwame Bonsu, thanked the Catholic Church for its development projects in the area of education, health and portable water in the district. Meanwhile, Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah II has called on the Catholic diocese to establish a technical or vocational school for the parish.
