Bawumia Steps up campaign

… Says free SHS is a topmost priority

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice Presidential candidate of the NPP, says plans are afoot to implement the controversial free Senior High Secondary school policy in September 2013, if the party emerge victorious in the impending general election.

The economist insists that current conditions makes the policy economically viable contrary to suggestions that its implementation could further deteriorate the country's ailing economy.

Dr. Bawumia disclosed this when addressing the national conference of NPP youth in Accra on Wednesday.

“We are planning to implement the concept in the first budget of the NPP administration. So clearly it is something which is dear to our hearts as political party,” he assured, adding the policy is on top of the party's priorities.

He further revealed that the NPP from September would be rolling out comprehensive policies, which would help improve upon the living conditions of Ghanaians, especially the youth.

He assured that the NPP would not renege on its electoral promise if the leadership mantle is handed over to the party in January, and thereby charged the rank and file of the party to intensify campaign activities.

“We will be visiting institutions, the informal sector youth camps, hair dressing saloons and bases wherever we can find the youth at the polytechnics, universities, training colleges and wherever we can find the youth to discuss these key issues that pertain to the welfare of the youth,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia seized the opportunity to challenged the president Mahama led-administration to tell Ghanaians polices and projects it has embarked on to change the lives of Ghanaians since taking over from the NPP in 2008.

The vice presidential aspirant, was however, confident that electorates on the day of elections would turn up in their numbers to vote massively for the party's candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.
