The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) is pursuing about 64 teachers who submitted fake certificates to facilitate their engagement in the Northern region.

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Alhaji Mohammed Haroon Cambodia said on Monday, May 16 that documents on the fake teachers, who are on the run, have been submitted to the BNI for appropriate actions to be taken against them.

He further revealed that there are more imposters in the system, therefore, the BNI will need to continue with its efforts to wipe them out from the system.

“There are more of them in the system,” he told Accra-based Citi FM, and further called on the BNI to continue with the effort to cleanse the Ghana Education Service (GES) of bad nuts.

Earlier this year, about 135 teachers believed to be operating with fake certificates in different parts of the country were investigated by the BNI.

The move forms part of efforts by the GES to sanitise the education system to ensure that only those with genuine certificates are maintained.

As part of the exercise, the various regional directors of education have been tasked to forward verification reports on all teachers in both basic and second-cycle institutions under their jurisdiction.
