Bournemouth winger Christian Atsu has debunked reports linking his lack of game action for the club to fitness issues.

The 23-year-old has made just one competitive appearance since joining the Cherries on loan in May - a 77-minute outing in a 4-0 Capital One Cup triumph over Hartlepool United on August 25 - ahead of the international break.

Having featured in both matches as Ghana picked wins over Congo and Rwanda, the speedster was expected to make his league debut when Bournemouth travelled to Norwich on Saturday.

However, the former Porto winger was missing in action as his side fell to a 3-1 defeat, fuelling concerns over an ailing health that kept him away from playing in the side’s opening four matches.

“Personally, I’m feeling fit and I’m waiting for my opportunity,” Atsu told the club’s official website.

“I’m doing my best each and every day to be ready because I really want to play.

“I hope I will get my chance soon because I have settled well off the pitch.”

Having been in Ghana’s national set-up since his debut in a 7-0 win over Lesotho in a 2014 World Cup qualifier, the on-loan Chelsea player also spoke about the feeling of representing his nation.

“Every time I play for my country, it’s an honour and I’m also able to play with a free mind,” Atsu said.

“My team-mates have been friends of mine for a long time and I love being part of the squad.

“With games against Congo and Rwanda, my last trip was a good one and I was glad to get some playing time.”

Atsu could be set for his Premier League debut on Saturday when Bournemouth take on Sunderland at the Vitality Stadium.
