Apprentice scares bread vendors with toy guns

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended an auto mechanic apprentice for robbing bread vendors of GH¢1,300.00 and sachets of margarine.

Simeon Boahene who resides at Nwamase admitted committing the offence.

Briefing the press in Kumasi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwaku Osei Ampofo Duku, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police commander, said the complainants are bread sellers, living at Apire, a suburb in Kumasi.

He said on September 29, 2015 at about 0400hours, the bread sellers were on foot to a bakery at Agric- Nzema, a suburb of Kumasi, to buy bread for sale.

On reaching Nwamase Junior High School (JHS) it started raining so they took shelter in front of a store opposite the school.

Boahene appeared to also take shelter in front of a store closer to the women.

Minutes later, Boahene passed through the rain to the school’s urinal and came back pointing a toy gun at the vendors, ordering them to surrender all the monies they had on them.

ACP Ampofo Duku said the complainants took to their heels and left behind their bread sieves.

Boahene ransacked their sieves and took a cash sum of GH¢1,300.00 and their sachets of margarine and bolted away.

At 1000 hours the next day, Boahene went to sell the sachet of margarine to one Adwoa Motoo, who happened to be one of the victims.

Motoo identified the sachets of margarine as theirs.

She collected the margarine and told Boahene to go and come for the money later in the day.

Motoo alerted the police, who laid ambush at the area.

ACP Ampofo Duku said at about 1200hours Boahene went to collect his money from Motoo and was arrested.

Boahene revealed he disguised the toy guns himself.
