Akufo-Addo’s guards attack Mpiani, beat Alan boy

The violence associated with the presidential ambitions of the defeated flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was taken a notch higher last Friday when his bodyguards and supporters physically attacked a leading member of the party and assaulted other perceived supporters of his fiercest contender, Mr. Alan Kyeremantenm at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

But for the timely intervention of Hon. Dan Botwe, Member of Parliament (MP) for Okre, who came out of the meeting just in time to meet the nasty incident of an attempt by Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bodyguards to pounce on Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani and put the fear of God in him, the former chief of staff would have been laughing at the wrong corner of his mouth today.

Another NPP member who was also not spared by the rampaging Akufo-Addo cum Bawumia bodyguards was Kwesi Korang, aka KK, a member of the national communications team of the NPP and polling station organizer of the party at the SDA Primary School at Chiraa in the Brong Ahafo region.

Mr. Korang, who confirmed the incident to The Catalyst, said he was beaten together with other perceived supporters of Mr. Alan Kyeremanten, who were among several supporters of the party who thronged the Alisa Hotel on Friday to witness the NEC meeting.

He said he was also saved by Mr Dan Botwe, who suddenly appeared from the meeting to chance upon the lawless conduct put up by the Akufo-Addo bodyguards and supporters.

Narrating his story, Mr. Korang said moments after Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia and their bodyguards arrived; the bodyguards started attacking some of them claiming they know them to be Alan supporters and that they were going to teach them a lesson.

According to him, the bodyguards also threatened that henceforth, they were going to begin “eliminating” Alan supporters who they said have been a thorn in their boss’ flesh all this while.

He said while at it, the bodyguards mentioned the names of Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani and Hon. Asamoah Boateng as the main kingpins of the Alan campaign, and that they had them on their hit list.

Mr. Korang said unfortunately for Mr. Mpiani; he came out of the meeting at that very moment to make a call. Upon seeing him, the bodyguards, he said, started advancing on him amidst threats, but that was the exact moment Hon. Dan Botwe appeared on the chaotic scene and managed to save the top party guru by a whisker.

In the process, the NPP communication team member said he was hit on the arm with a big stick by Ebo Memsah, a known Akufo-Addo supporter and assemblyman of Asylum Down. He said he was sure his story would have been different today, but for the fortitude shown by the Okre MP to save him and the others from the attack by the Nana Akufo-Addo thugs.

He said he was attacked by Ebo Memsah when he confronted the assemblyman in a bid to make him see reason in not attacking his fellow party members, adding that his attacker had bragged that he had clout and could do to anyone as he felt like it at the Alisa Hotel because he was the one who sold the land to its owner.

Mr. Korang said he reported the assault on him by Ebo Mensah to the Nima Police on the advice of Hon. Dan Botwe and was issued a medical form to go to the hospital.
