Ade-Coker wins NDC Chairmanship slot

Accra, Dec. 30, GNA - Mr Kobina Ade-Coker, a former Sports Administrator was on Wednesday elected Greater Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to steer its affairs for the next four years.

Mr Ade-Coker polled 101 votes to beat the then incumbent, Mr Danny Anang, who polled 96 votes at the Region's Seventh Delegates Conference which took place in Accra.

The Congress, which was attended by 199 delegates, also elected nine other executives to assist the Chairman to work and ensure victory for the party in the region during the 2012 general election. They are Alhaji Mahmoud Musah and Mrs Gifty Emefa Sika Nartey, both Vice Chairpersons, Mr Aristo Nii Aryee, Secretary, Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, Deputy Secretary, Mr Jerry Thompson, Organizer and Mr Anthony Nukpenu, Deputy Organizer.

The rest are Alhaji Yahaya Kundow, Treasurer, Alhaji Seidu Haruna, Deputy Treasurer and Nii Dodoo Dodoo, Deputy Propaganda Secretary. Dr Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of the NDC swore-in the newly elected executives to assume office.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Ade-Coker promised to strengthen the structures of the party as well as work to secure a bigger office space to enhance its activities.

He said he would work with all including past executives to chart a new course towards the forward-movement of the party and also satisfy the needs and expectations of the supporters. He called for unity and hard work among the executives and the entire membership of the party to ensure that it did not only retain power in the 2012 general election but also to "perpetually chase the elephant into the darkest bush".

Mr Ade-Coker thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised that he would not disappoint them. Earlier, party bigwigs including Nii Armah Ashietey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Elvis Afrieyie-Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development among others addressed the delegates stressing the need for hard work to win more votes.
