The mayor of Accra has emphatically stated he is not interested in becoming President John Dramani Mahama’s running mate for the 2016 elections.

“No!” Alfred Oko Vanderpuije replied Bola Ray on Starr Chat when asked about a group lobbying for him to pair up with Mahama.

The reigning best mayor of Africa said he believes in the Kwesi Amissah-Arthur-Mahama ticket and has never dreamt of unseating the former governor of the Bank of Ghana.

“I have not thought about that and I don’t think I’m interested,” Dr Vanderpuije said.

He emphasised that Mahama is the best person to lead the National Democratic Congress and will not dare contesting him now or ever.

Dr Vanderpuije believes Ghanaians will remember him for the good works during his tenure as he eyes a parliamentary seat in the Ablekuma West constituency.

“Let the people rate me and they have to give me a scorecard. I don’t have to rate myself,” he added when asked to assess his performance.

A group calling itself the Ga Adangme Youth of the NDC is putting pressure on the President to select Dr Vanderpuije as his running mate in the 2016 elections.

According to the group, their demand is to help the party address what they refer to as marginalization of the Greater Accra region in both the presidential and running mate positions over the years.

The concerns were contained in a petition captioned “Make Oko Vanderpuye the running mate for the NDC.”

But the Accra Mayor said he does not know the group and has nothing doing with its members.
