ASA promotes growth of businesses in Ashanti

ASA Savings and Loans Limited is providing strong support to women across the Ashanti Region to grow their businesses – assisting them with vital access to credit.

Mr. Mohammed Khalilur Raman, the Regional Manager of the Company, said it gave out a total of GHC2 million in loans, last year, and that about 90 per cent of the beneficiaries were women engaged in petty trading and farming.

The focus was to aid them to expand their economic activities to raise income levels and transform their livelihoods.

He was addressing a day’s seminar held for the company’s customers with the aim of helping them to adopt best business management practices to sustain their operations.

ASA, which began its operations in the region, eight years ago, now, has 24 branches spread all over the area with the total number of customers, in excess of 23,000.

Mr. Raman said empowering women economically was a major priority and that most of its products and services were aimed just at achieving that.

The programme provided the platform to update the participants on the operation of the company and its future plans.

He spoke of the introduction of mobile banking to bring its services closer to the people and encourage them to save their money with ASA.

They would continue to remain professional, uphold transparency and ensure good customer care.

Ms. Bernice Edem Nyadodui, an official of the company, advised against keeping money in the home and said that could be dangerous.
