52 year-old woman dragged to court for causing harm

Kumasi, Feb. 25, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit on Friday granted a bail of GH¢10,000.00 to a 52-year old woman, who allegedly hit her landlady's daughter with an ice block, causing her to lose a tooth and injuring her upper jaw. Munuriatu Yussif pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on Friday, March 11.

Police Chief Inspector Collins Nana Kwesi Fosu told the court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the complainant, Rafatu Salifu, 32, and the accused who live in the same house at Adukrom, a suburb of Kumasi were not on good terms.

On August 4, last year, Rafatu, an asthmatic patient, protested to Munuriatu that she could not longer bear with the smoke nuisance from the firewood she was using to cook, but this did not go down well with the accused and degenerated into a quarrel. The landlady intervened and the matter was settled. The prosecution said the next day, Munuriatu, without provocation started insulting Rafatu and attacked her with a piece of ice block. She bled profusely and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. A report from the dentist who treated her said the entire row of her teeth on the upper jaw was affected and have to be replaced.
