43-year-old man defiles his 11-year-old stepdaughter

Akim Swedru (E/R), Feb. 29, GNA - A circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District on Friday remanded a cobbler in police custody for defiling his 11-year-old stepdaughter. Kofi Osei, 43, pleaded not guilty to defilement and was remanded to reappear on March 12.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court, presided over by Mr Edward Bosompem Appenkwa, that sometime in January, this year when the girl returned from school, Osei invited her into his room under the pretext of sending her. The court heard that when the girl got to the room, Osei gagged her with a rag and forcibly had sex with her. Chief Inspector Appiah said after committing the crime, Osei warned the girl not to disclose the ordeal to anyone and that she would die if she did.

However, the girl fell sick few days later and was detected to have been defiled. Chief Inspector Appiah said the victim later disclosed the ordeal during medical examination and Osei was arrested.
