35-year-old elephant poacher arrested

Goaso (B/A), Aug 31, GNA- A 35-year-old man has been arrested at Goaso in the Asunafo district with five elephants tusks. Torgbe Emma is alleged to have killed the elephants in the BIA game reserve in the Western Region and absconded with the tusks to Fawohoyeden in the Asunafo district.

Briefing the GNA, Mr Francis Nana Bonsu, Asunafo district officer of the Department of Wildlife, said the suspect was arrested following a tip-off.

He alleged that Emma confessed selling the carcass of two out of the three elephants he poached for 2.6 million cedis and that the other carcass he left behind when he was being chased had been sold for 600,000 cedis.

Nana Bonsu said the suspect will be prosecuted. He called on assembly members, chiefs and opinion leaders in the district to report the activities of poachers to the police.
