Mikel Happy Proving Chelsea Doubters Wrong
John Obi Mikel regards his time at Chelsea so far as an “apprenticeship”.
“I feel what I’ve done here so far is like an apprenticeship. I’m 21 and things seem to have happened really quickly for me, so hopefully there’s plenty more still to come from me here,” said the Nigeria midfielder.
“I knew coming to Chelsea was going to be tough for me in terms of getting games and I had some people saying ‘Don’t go there, they have lots of midfield players and you’ll have trouble getting in’.
“They were not just any midfield players, they were the top players in the world. So, I knew I had to come here and prove myself.
“You have to do something special to prove you can play with these players and I tried to build my confidence, to read the game better and to show I can be ready for this kind of team.
“I think I am more mature for the experience because the first season was okay, the second a bit better and now I’m playing regularly, so you can see there is definite progress in my game.” - MTNFootball
