THIS WEEK’S AFRICAN TOP 20
Back in action and back amongst the goals, Samuel Eto’o was back to his brilliant best against Real Madrid scoring the first goal in their 2-0 win over arch-rivals Real Madrid.
His 15th goal of the season means he remains atop the goalscoring charts in Spain and in fact Eto’o could have been further ahead had he been able to slot home a penalty which was saved by Iker Casillas in the Real Madrid goal.
Yaya Toure was equally as impressive for Barcelona as he held their midfield together and almost got on the scoresheet himself.
Chelsea’s Ivorian connection helped them through to the next round of the Uefa Champions League as both Solomon Kalou and Didier Drogba scored in their 2-1 win over CFR Cluj-Napoca, whose goal was scored by another African, Yssouf Kone of Burkino-Faso.
South African Steven Pienaar and Malian Mohammed Sissoko, could find themselves on this list sooner rather than later as both impressed once again for their clubs.
Pienaar in a 1-0 win over Manchester City for Everton and Sissoko whose Juventus team hammered AC Milan 4-2 in Serie A.
Obafemi Martins and Emmanuel Adebayor were amongst the goals in the English Premiership although Martins picked up an injury that could see him out of action for over a month and Adebayor’s Arsenal could only muster a draw against Middlesbrough, foring them down the league table to fifth position.
Another good weekend for Africa’s best in Europe was highlighted by Mohamed Zidan’s great strike for Borussia Dortmund in their win over Monchengladbach.
